Henry IV, also known as Henry of Navarre, came to power at the end of the Wars of Religion and was the first French monarch of the Bourbon dynasty. Famous for his declaration “Paris is worth a Mass,” he converted to Catholicism to secure his reign and implemented the Edict of Nantes, which granted religious freedom to Protestants and helped stabilize the kingdom.
